The Orestimba Creek Recharge and Recovery Project broke ground in July 2023. The project will capture and divert excess surface water supplies and flood flows from the Delta-Mendota Canal and create nearly 80 acres of recharge and storage ponds. This allows us to harness previously evaporating water to store in the underlying aquifer for use in dry years and relieve demand on groundwater pumping. Additionally, it will improve flood management in the area.
With construction now ongoing, we anticipate the project will be ready for operations in 2024. This project is being led by CCID and the Del Puerto Water District in yet another cooperative water resource project undertaken by this partnership.
